The History of the 1889 Lake House
Located on the southern shore of Great East Lake, near the Newichawannock Canal, the house was once home to the Burley Logging Camp in the late 1800's, followed by The Newichawannock Rest Camp at the turn of the century and later a boys camp operated by the City of Somerville, MA through the early 1960's. This 1.5 acre parcel has 142' of west facing lake front located just outside the Canal on the Acton, Maine line at the head of the Salmon Falls River, which the Abenaki Native Americans called "Newichawannock," meaning "river with many falls".
